In 2010 they released a movie that focused on an autistic girl who struggles to do what others do and to simply be taken seriously by other people. The movie allows us to better understand how autism affects people. Temple Grandin, the main character, faces two difficulties in the movie; her autism and the fact that she's a motivated female in a man's world. When she was young, she showed signs of being anti-social and was then diagnosed with autism. The professional advised her mother to put her in a care facility, insisting that she wouldn't amount to much. Luckily Eustacia Cutler, her mother, refused to give up on Temple and forced her to learn how to speak and be a little more social. During her academic years, she struggled fitting in and was usually known as an outcast. Most people overlooked her, including the teachers. All except Professor Carlock who noticed how brilliant Temple was. He encouraged her whenever possible and somewhat understood how her mind worked. She was a visual learner. Temple spent her summer with her aunt and thats when she realized how much she enjoyed being with animals. This led her to making two important inventions. The "hug machine' (similar to that used to calm cattle but instead used for humans to provide the sensation of a hug without other human contact) and the curved corrals that are now used throughout the country. She has published multiple books and now teaches at Colorado State University about animal science.
I personally enjoyed the movie because I learned a lot about autism. I now know how to act around people who have this disability because i know what makes them uncomfortable. People do not realize how common autism is now so its important to have some knowledge on it.
